Trying new things #2

A couple weekends ago, I took a weaving class at the Weavers Guild MN. I had seen the Guild booth at the state fair and couldn't resist giving it a try. The class I took was called Try It! Weaving on a Floor Loom. Well, I loved it. It just felt right. I have crocheted for years and tried knitting last year. The knitting has been a struggle for me. The instructor had never taught a lefty and I thought I had it figured out, but then another instructor got involved and said I was doing it wrong. Needless to say, I almost quit the class, especially after being told I should just learn to do it right handed. Anyway, weaving uses both hands equally and no adjustments had to be made. The floor loom I used was a Schacht Baby Wolf.

Here's a picture of the final project from the Try It class. It's a plain weave wool scarf.

After completing the Try It class, I knew I wanted to take the Beginning Floor Loom class. Last night was the first session. I think I am even more excited to continue with the weaving. Joe asked if I wanted a loom. I do, but not yet. I want to get a little more experience (like actually doing a whole project from start to finish) and a loom doesn't just take up a small amount of space. Basement has to get finished first. But, I think I'll start saving for a loom.

So, here's to trying new things!
